"The Herman Cain Show" Info

Can non-computer users join HITM?

People who do not use/own a computer can be on our postcard mailing list.  They should mail us a postcard with their full name, mailing address with 9 digit zip code, and phone number to the following address:

HITM

PO box 888

Morrow, GA  30260

In return, we will mail them a packet of postcards and labels, pre-addressed to their Representative and Senators.  Each time they hear a Cain Alert announced on air, they can use a postcard to write a note and send through regular mail.  We also send out occasional alerts by phone as well as by postcard.  Finally, you or other online members may also want to make them a copy of the emailed Alert when you receive one online.

Is HITM on FaceBook?

There is an "Intelligent Thinkers Movement" group on Facebook.  The group was created by fans of the show and other HITM members so we don't control or moderate the group.  While we do not currently have the staff to administer an "official" HITM page on Facebook, we have referred several HITM members to the group.
In order to participate in their discussions, you would first need to sign up for a free Facebook account at

http://www.facebook.com/index.php?lh=759566a397d8767f654c8c32e151b639&
After you have created an account profile, you can then access the HITM group page.  When you log into Facebook, on the bottom left side of the screen, click on "Applications" then click "Groups" in the menu that pops up.
On the next page there's a search box that says "Search for Groups" - type in "Intelligent Thinkers Movement" and the Intelligent Thinkers group will show up.  Click the link, and on the page that comes up, click "Join Group" under Herman's picture and you're done!

I use Mozilla/Firefox and the images in the email won't display.

We have found that many of the HITM members who use Firefox have similar issues.  The email system that we use to maintain our membership info and send the CAIN Alerts is called Constant Contact, and they offer the following technical information in regards to the problem:

Firefox
displays images by default. If you are unable to view images, this option was disabled. To enable images:
1.     Click Tools > Options.
2.     Click Content.
3.     Check Load images automatically.
4.     Click OK.
5.     Click the reload icon to view the images.
Sometimes the settings in Firefox will be changed by accident and images can be blocked.  To check to see if images are being blocked:
1.     Click Tools > Options.
2.     Click Content.
3.     Click on Exceptions.
4.     Type *.constantcontact.com in the Address of website box and click Allow.
5.     Type *.roving.com in the Address of website box and click Allow.
6.     Make sure neither of those addresses are listed as a blocked address,
If they are, highlight that selection and click
Remove Site.
7.     Click Close.
8.     Click OK (or exit this screen if you are in on Mac OS X) to apply settings.
9.     Restart Firefox to ensure the settings take place.

Mozilla/Firefox images won't print

Many of our members with Mozilla/Firefox have experienced issues with printing the images in the emails.  We have found the following instructions on the Constant Contact site (the email service that we use to send out the Alerts) relating to this issue.

Windows
MozillaFirefox 1.x and higher
1.     Go to File > Page Setup.
2.     In the "Format & Options" tab, check the "Print Background (colors & images)" option.
3.     Click the
OK button to save your changes.

MacIntosh
MozillaFirefox 1.x and higher
1.     Go to File > Print.
2.     Next to the printer name, click on the arrow to see more printing options.
3.     Make sure the printer you want to print to is selected, then select
Firefox within the third drop-down selection box.
4.     Next to Appearance put a check next to the "Print Background Colors" and "Print Background Images" boxes.
5.     Click the Print button

The links in the Cain Alerts don't work.

We have found that if your "pop-up blocker" is activated on your computer, the web sites may not open.  If that is not the problem, you may just need to copy and paste the web address into your browser's address bar.  If this still does not work, the website that the link directs you to may be having technical difficulty.

When I receive your Alert, all I see is gibberish and confusing words and characters. What's wrong?

It is possible that when you signed up, you may have selected the option to receive "text" versions of the email alerts.  If you would like to begin receiving the alerts in the standard (HTML) format, please email

melanie@hermancain.com and we will change it in our system.

Are you on Twitter?

Yes.  THEhermancain is the Twitter name and while we do not have a set schedule for updating the feed, you may occasionally come across some interesting comments.

Is there a way to write all of my elected officials at once?

Try visiting

www.congress.orgwhich is a public access website.  I have found that this site is quite reliable because it is a one-stop-shop for contacting ALL of your elected officials on federal, state, and local levels.  Once you click the link, do the following:
  1. Enter your zip code in the red "My Elected Officials" box
  2. Under the " Write Your Elected Officials " heading, click on Federal or State to select which representatives you would like to write to.
  3. You will be taken to a page that lists each elected official. Select the check box of each person who you would like to receive your note.  Complete the form and send.

Do the Members of Congress even read all of the emails that we send?

Understandably, the Members of Congress aren't able to read every email that comes into their office. However, in a meeting that Herman hosted with Senate and House staff members in D.C, they reconfirmed that our emails and phone calls do get categorized, tallied and shared with the respective members of Congress.

The emails don't seem to be helping...what's the point?

If politicians get enough letters and constituents talking about the same issues we will overwhelm them. That's the "HEAT" that we want. When they feel the heat, they will see the light.  We didn't get in this mess overnight and it won't get resolved overnight.

My Members of Congress already agree with our position. Do I still need to write them?

Yes. We still need to contact our representatives even though we 'think' we may know how they will vote.  First, it will show them that their constituents support their decisions and secondly, it helps keep them from getting talked out of the situation.  If they think their constituents don't care then they may be persuaded to vote otherwise.

Where can I find information about congressional bills?

You can go to the legislative information section of the Library of Congress website which is:

You may also want to tryhttp://www.govtrack.us/users/ In the upper right hand corner you can search by bill number or key words.

Where can I find out how my elected officials voted on different issues?

Try visiting www.congress.org which is a public access website.  I have found that this site is quite reliable because it is a one-stop-shop for contacting ALL of your elected officials on federal, state, and local levels.  Once you click the link, do the following:

1.     Enter your zip code in the red "My Elected Officials" box
2.     Enter your full mailing address OR the additional 4 digits of your zip code. (Some zip codes contain more than one voting district so the added info is needed)

You will be taken to a page that lists all of your specific representatives as well as recent Senate and House vote results.  Click on your Rep to contact them.

Where do I find the email addresses for my Members of Congress?

Most of the Members of Congress do not provide an actual email address as a means to communicate with their constituents. Instead, they use online web forms which are available on a number of different websites.
The Official website of the United States House of Representatives is: https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml .
Here, you can send a message using the web form for your specific Representative.  All you need is your full 9-digit zip code which can be found on your driver's license, junk mail, or a utility bill.  When sending your message you will be asked to:
   1.  Select your home state and enter your 9-digit zip
   2.  Complete the steps in the form (contact info., etc.)
   3.  Write your message.
The Official website of the United States Senate is: http://www.senate.gov

When sending your message you will be asked to:
    1. Select your home state under "Find Your Senators" and click "GO" (top right corner).
    2. Click on "Web form" link under Senator's name.
    3. Complete contact info section and write your message

What is congress.org and why do you link to this site?

Congress.org is a public-service site that allows citizens to write or lookup their legislators, register to vote and more. Congress.org is the only site that publicly posts e-mails to congressional representatives from constituents, and gives citizen activists the option to have their messages hand-delivered to Congress.

How do I update/cancel my HITM registration?

If you scroll to the bottom of your Cain Alert, you can click on "update my account" and you will be emailed instructions on how to make the change or cancellation.  Please keep in mind that if you need to change your email address, you will need to cancel your current registration and "Join" again using the new email address.

I share an email with someone else. How do we both join HITM?

The system that we use to register members and send the Cain Alerts (called Constant Contact) will only accept an email address once.  The second person will either need to create a separate email account with your internet service provider or the other option would be to put both names on the same Cain Alert registration.  While the Alert itself would be addressed to the both of you, you could still send your own individual notes to Congress.  While we do not have any affiliation with congress.org, we have found it to be very user friendly and up-to-date.

Where can I buy HITM stuff?

Please visit www.cainalert.com to browse through the HITM store.

Why do you need my full 9 digit zip code?

The additional 4 digit zip code is not only for the post office, but Congressional districts are also based on those last 4 digits.  The reason we are requiring the extra 4 digits is because we may want to target certain Congressmen if they need HITM attention, and we will be targeting their constituents to write to them.  This will require sorting addresses by zip code.  Many Congressional districts share the same zip code (the 5 digits) and in order to break it down to see which Congressman serves their constituents we need the extra 4 digits.

How can you tell how many members have contacted their representatives?

The email service that we use to maintain membership info and send out the Alerts (called Constant Contact) creates reports that detail how many people clicked on each of the links that we include in the alert.  Therefore, by looking at how many people clicked on the "Write to Congress" link, we are able to get a rough estimate of the number of people who contacted their elected officials.  This does not take into account those of you who send letters by mail, call on the phone, or use other websites that we do not provide links to.  However, it does give us an idea of the activity.

I don't use the links in your alerts to contact my representatives. How do you keep track of my activity?

We are not able to track the activity of members who do not use the links provided in our Alerts.  However, the important thing is that people are writing their Representatives so if you find an easier way to do that, by all means, use it.

Where can I see old alerts?

An archive of various CAIN Alerts can be found at: http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs069/1102343542682/archive/1102433048825.html
We also include a link to the Archive on every Cain Alert.

Where does Herman get his information?

Herman does all of his own research for his radio show and Cain Alerts.  When possible he puts a link to show research on the WSB radio website (see link below) and the links to the Cain Alert research on the alert email.

Where can I hear Herman's show?

The Herman Cain Show airs nightly from 7-10 PM here in Georgia and in a few other parts of the country.  If you cannot hear WSB AM750 on the radio, then you can listen live on the internet, Monday through Friday at http://wsbradio.com/  or www.hermancain.com  (just click on the "Listen Live" button).

Is The Herman Cain Show available on podcast?

They do podcast about an hour of the show (in 15 minute increments) for 2 days each week.  You can access the "Podcasts and Downloads" page by following the link below.  Once there, you can either listen to the show excerpts on your computer, or you can download them into an iPod through iTunes.
